REGISTRATION AND TRAVEL BURSARIES

Student and Early- to Mid-career Conference Registration Bursary

About:
To recognise the contributions of, and to support the careers of students and early- to mid-career researchers (EMCRs), in each, student and EMCR category, several bursaries that partially cover conference registration will be awarded.

 Eligibility:

  • All students and EMCRs* who submit abstracts are eligible to apply.

*An EMCR is defined as max 10 years post PhD award, subtracting eligible career interruptions. Eligible career interruptions are >3 months consecutive time away from academic research, such as due to parental leave, carer’s leave, illness, non-academic employment, other (to be considered).

Application procedure:

  • As part of the abstract submission.

  • Deadline: 27 October 2023 (the abstract submission deadline)

  • Outcomes announced: December

Selection criteria/process:

  • Based on abstract score by a selection committee.

  • Allocation of bursaries to individuals from different institutes.

International Travel Bursary

About:
To recognise the contributions of, and support the careers of students and early- to mid-career researchers (EMCRs), in each, student and EMCR category, several bursaries towards international travel expenses will be awarded.

Eligibility:

  • All students and EMCRs* who do not reside in Australia and submit abstracts are eligible to apply.

*An EMCR is defined as max 10 years post PhD award, subtracting eligible career interruptions. Eligible career interruptions are >3 months consecutive time away from academic research, such as due to parental leave, carer’s leave, illness, non-academic employment, other (to be considered).

Application procedure:

  • As part of the abstract submission.

Best Oral Presentation and Poster Presentation Awards

About:
To recognise the contributions of, and support the careers of students and early- to mid-career researchers (EMCRs), in each category, students and EMCRs, the presenters of the best posters and talks will receive awards in the form of certificates.

Eligibility:

  • All students and EMCRs* who present their research in the form of a poster or talk are eligible to apply.

*An EMCR is defined as max 10 years post PhD award, subtracting eligible career interruptions. Eligible career interruptions are >3 months consecutive time away from academic research, such as due to parental leave, carer’s leave, illness, non-academic employment, other (to be considered).

Application procedure:

  • As part of the abstract submission.

  • Deadline: 27 October 2023 (the abstract submission deadline)

  • If you are presenting a poster, you will receive a sticker to be mounted on your poster to facilitate poster scoring by assessors.

  • Outcomes announced: 29 February 2024 at ‘Closing and Awards’ of the conference

Selection criteria/process:

  • A selection committee assesses talks and abstracts for the following criteria relative to career stage:

o   Novelty/impact of presented findings

o   Clarity of presentation

o   Ability to answer questions posed by the assessors and audience
